Position Description

Job Summary

The RN Clinic Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of clinic staff, ensuring high-quality patient care in alignment with established policies, physician directives, and standards of practice. This role includes managing clinic inventory, coordinating daily staffing, and providing both clinical and administrative support to office personnel. The RN Clinic Manager leads the outpatient nursing department and plays a key role in maintaining efficient workflows and positive patient experience.

Responsibilities

Supervision Staff

  • Prepare, monitor and evaluate annual operating budget.
  • Communicate goals and objectives, financial performance, and other defined performanceobjectives with physicians and support staff.
  • Manage office-based components of the Revenue Cycle while working collaboratively with the Central Billing Office to manage billing and collection activities: notably, timely management of encounter data submissions; monitoring and encouraging completion of open encounters; collection of co-payments and patient balances.
  • Demonstrate general understanding of insurance reimbursement policies, and proficient knowledge of coding policies. Maintain general understanding and awareness of the physician contracts – type of compensation model and pertinent elements (e.g., wRVU computation and importance; non-productivity incentive metrics) and benefits structure (e.g., CME and PTO parameters).
  • Work collaboratively with the Credentialing Coordinator to submit and maintain physician and advanced practice provider eligibility requirements.

Oversees and Manages the Delivery of Nursing Care

  • Effectively coordinate the flow of work in the Department; day-to-day operations run smooth and efficiently and the team operates as a cohesive unit to ensure safe and quality care delivery.
  • Provide leadership and direction to staff, ensuring expectations and assignments are clear.
  • Manage the performance of staff and ensure policies and procedures are appropriately followed.
  • Communicate effectively with staff to maintain quality nursing care.
  • Acts as the point-of-contact for patients and family members.
  • Professionally work with the patient/family to effectively and satisfactorily resolve any complaints.
  • Keep patients updated regarding delays.
  • Follows up and communicates outcome/info to affected staff and Physician.
  • Oversee and ensure a clean and safe working environment for patients and staff.
  • Ensure equipment is available for procedures.
  • Order and obtain specialty supplies.

Provides Direct Patient Care

  • Accurately identify the patient prior to any procedures or treatments using two identifiers (account number and the patient's name) as compared to the patient identification band.
  • Function as a staff nurse to meet scheduling and emergency needs to ensure appropriate relief coverage and assist other staff members as needed.
  • Provide safe, effective quality care to the patients.
  • Adherent to nursing standards of care, policies and procedures.
  • Assess and reassess patients according to standards of care, policies, and procedures.
  • Assess for pain, documents using 1-10 pain scale and treats according to physician orders.
  • Operate equipment safely according to policy, procedure and/or manufacture directions.
  • Perform verification and "time out" prior to surgical procedure in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Ensure documentation is legible, accurate, concise, complete and timely.
  • Use only hospital-approved abbreviations.
  • Provide individualized patient/family teaching regarding procedure.
  • Assess patient/family's level of understanding.
  • Administer medications according to policies and procedures.
  • Correctly identify and prepare and labels specimens.
  • Order medications for outpatient nursing department and obtain authorization for medications.
  • Administer injections, infusions, and wound care in an outpatient setting.

Management of Budget

  • Review monthly statistical reports with the unit director to ensure compliance with budgetary parameters.
  • Understand and practices cost-containment principles and teaches them to staff.

Equipment Usage

  • Operate equipment accurately and safely, according to policy, procedure and or manufacturer's directions.
  • Leave equipment prepared for the next procedure.
  • Tag and report malfunctioning equipment in a timely manner.
  • Quickly learn to use new equipment.
  • Use equipment independently.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of electrical safety.

Abuse and Neglect

  • Report Identifies appropriate cases of abuse and neglect and demonstrates knowledge of mandatory reporting requirements.
  • Satisfactorily complete mandatory in-service training within established timeframe.

Performs other duties as required

  • Attend mandatory in-services, staff meetings, and actively participate in self-education.
  • Complete all required competency assessments on time.
  • Maintain required job knowledge (e.g. licensure and credentials, continuing education etc.).
  • Perform other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Medium Work: Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs with a maximum lifting of 50 lbs.
  • Knowledge of outpatient practice normally acquired through specialized training or previous experience. Thorough working knowledge of The Joint Commission and OSHA guidelines, AACN Standards and recommendations, and departmental policies and procedure.
  • Knowledge of personnel practices and demonstrated ability in the supervision of staff normally acquired through previous supervisory experience.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills in order to provide leadership to employees and maintain cooperative working relationships with physicians.

Education

  • RN license, Associates or higher (Required)
  • High school diploma (Required)
